With experience as an educator, tutor, business executive, and parent of six girls, Theresa Ferguson joined Wanzenberg & Associates in 2015 as Executive Functioning Skills Coach and Director of Curriculum Development.

Ferguson is responsible for helping individuals develop executive functioning skills to equip them to be more effective in the classroom, work and life.  Her clients range from middle school to college-age students. She is also responsible for working with Dr. Wanzenberg in the development of curriculum for coaches.

Most recently, Ferguson has been a stay-at-home mom raising her four daughters, ages 5-11. Her parenting experience includes the guidance of adoptive twins, including one with special needs who successfully graduated high school and a technical college program, and the other graduating from Creighton University.

A certified teacher, Ferguson has worked independently as a tutor for children in elementary to middle school, from teaching study skills and organization to helping in specific subject areas.  She also taught at the intermediate level at St. Michael School in Wheaton, and headed up the preschool and kindergarten religious education program there while earning her Master of Arts in Teaching at National Louis University with honors.  She also worked as a substitute teacher in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn public schools.

Prior to that, Ferguson led a successful career in public relations where she worked for companies like Leo Burnett Worldwide managing corporate communications in Europe/Middle East/Africa/Asia/Pacific, Sears overseeing PR from Kenmore to Craftsman, and Marklund Children’s Home directing PR and fundraising. She won numerous awards for her work in PR, most notably “Rising Star” by the Public Relations Society in Chicago, where she also served on the Board of Directors. Inspired by volunteering as a Sunday School teacher, however, she decided to leave her career and pursue the rewarding profession of teaching to focus on making a positive difference in the lives of children.

She earned an Associate of Arts Degree from College of DuPage and Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from Illinois State University.  Always interested in education, one of her key roles in college was serving in student government and she played an active role as student representative for the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

Ferguson maintains her Professional Educator License with the Illinois State Board of Education, which she has held since 2001.  Her educational papers include the qualitative and quantitative study of IQ increases in students who participate in volunteering programs, as well as extensive research in the best practices of executive functioning.

Together with her husband and family, Ferguson frequently volunteers in her community, school and church.  Active in the outdoors, they have spent many summers tent camping across the United States.  She is also an avid runner and writes for a couple blogs in her spare time.
